Self-taught baker with a passion for community development, music and social justice. I started my working life as a journalist- ever on the search for more information, more knowledge, more skills. After graduate school, I took a job as a government analyst. Quickly dissatisfied, I started to blog about local food and farms. I started to bake for my friends and neighbors out of my home kitchen0- a tiny enterprise called Hilary Bee’s Homemade Goods. Hilary Bee grew bigger slowly; a year later I launched Thistle Confections, a small farm-stand at the Second Street Market. I love to bake with local produce, and I’m proud to use Ohio’s bounty. Produce is a labor of love, and I strive to honor that love through my baking.
If you’ve visited Thistle’s farm-stand at the PNC 2nd Street Market, you’ve probably seen my husband, Mr. Radar and Mother-In-Law Kathy. They have been a tremendous source of strength and support. Mr. Radar is my chief taste-tester and a real life mad scientist. In our spare time, we enjoy gardening, home improvement projects, and long hikes with our wonderdog, Buddy.

Hilary,
Aunt Ginny told me about your website. It is great and you have done a lot of hard work. Congratulations and best of luck.

Haven’t checked your blog in awhile, Hilary, but love the new layout (and you look amazing, of course)! My vegetarian baker-extraordinaire roomie Mary has fallen in love with the recipes you feature, since I couldn’t help showing you off
Be well!

found your Quinoa Kale Quiche recipe on Food 52 and LOVED it. My 4-year old gobbled it up. Thank you for such a healthy dinner option!
